Preview a file or document

Take a look at a file or document before opening it in a new browser window.

The preview pane in Google Drive on the web lets you see details about a file or document before you open it in a new window. The preview pane displays the following information:

  • Owner of the item
  • When and by whom the document was last modified
  • The visibility setting and who's a collaborator of the item
  • A description of the item
  • What folders it's included in

To preview a file or document, check the box next to its title in Google Drive. Then, click the preview icon Preview icon above your list of items.

To close the preview, click the X in the upper right of the pane or click the Eye icon again.
