Eduroam WiFi for Windows 10

The Eduroam Wi-Fi network is provided to employees and students who want to connect a personal device to the network. In addition, Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure service that allows students, faculty, and staff to obtain internet connectivity when visiting other participating institutions across the U.S. and around the globe.

To Connect to the Eduroam Wi-Fi Network:

1. To access the menus in Windows 10 go to the Start menu > Settings > Network & Internet

2. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

3. Select Wi-Fi at the top left.

4. Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled. From the list of available networks, select eduroam.

6. Check the box labeled Connect automatically. Click Connect.

7. When prompted, enter your Blake School email (e.g., yourusername@blakeschool.org) and password. Click OK.

Note: (Sometimes) If your computer has not yet encountered the certificate that encrypts the connection, it may show a Windows Security Alert warning that "The connection attempt could not be completed." 

  • You can press a button to view Details.
  • You can verify the details against the information listed as auth.blakeschool.org
  • Select Connect.

8. Click Connect to accept the certificate and establish the connection.

9. Your device should display "Connected" next to eduroam, indicating a successful connection.

 

Troubleshooting Steps. 

  • If you encounter issues, ensure your device's date and time settings are correct.
  • Remove any existing eduroam profiles by navigating to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, selecting eduroam, and clicking Forget. Then, attempt to reconnect.

Manual configuration

  1. Open the list of wireless networks.
  2. Right click on any listed Eduroam networks and choose "Forget this network". If it is not memorized, you will not have the menu, and can skip this.
  3. Open the Network and Sharing Center. You can reach it by going to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center, Click Set up a new connection or network.
  4. Click Manually connect to a wireless network. Click Next.
  5. Click the Security tab in the Wireless Network Properties window.
  6. Fill in the following information for the new network:
    • Network Name: eduroam
    • Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise Encryption
    • Type: AES
    • Network Authentication Method: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)
      The eduroam Wireless Network Properties window is shown, and the Security tab is selected. The security type dropdown menu is set to WPA2-Enterprise, and the Encryption Type is set to AES. The Settings button is highlighted.
  7. Click Settings under Choose a network authentication method.
  8. Click Settings.
    • Check Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate
    • Check Connect to these servers
      • type "eduroam.blakeschool.org"
      • Check AddTrust External CA Root or USERTrust RSA Certification Authority
      • Select Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
      • Click OK.
  9. Click Advanced settings button in Wireless Setup Properties window
  10. Check Specify authentication mode
  11. Select User authentication
  12. Click Save credential
  13. Un-check the box labeled Automatically use my Windows logon....
    • Click OK on all boxes to close out and save the wireless settings.
  14. You should receive a notification asking for additional information. Click this notification anywhere to open the password dialog box.
  15. When prompted, enter your Blake School email (e.g., yourusername@blakeschool.org) and password.
  16. Click OK in all remaining open windows to finish setup.

Note: If this process fails, please try to follow it again. Occasionally, we have noticed that the Windows wireless configuration utility loses its settings after the first setup.
