Make sure your Mac and Apple TV are on the same network.
- There are two ways to Connect to Screen Mirroring on Mac, with Mac OS Big Sur. (Watch both methods below)
- Click the Screen Mirroring status icon
in the menu bar, then choose your Apple TV.

Note: If you don’t see the Screen Mirroring status icon in the menu bar, check that your Apple TV is set up correctly.
1st Method:
- First you'll need to change your Menu Bar Settings so the Screen Mirroring status icon appears. (Watch below to see how to enable Screen Mirroring Icon, in the Menu Bar, and continue to learn how to use Screen Mirroring)
- After you click on the Screen Mirroring Icon, you’ll see a list of AirPlay-compatible devices that your Mac has discovered on your network. Click one of them to begin mirroring. (Apple TV's are labeled with the room number they're in.)
- While you’re connected and actively sharing your screen, the Screen Mirroring icon in the menu bar will turn blue.
2nd Method:
- Click the Screen Mirroring status icon
in the menu bar, this will expand the Control Center Menu.
- Click the Screen Mirroring status icon
in the, expanded, Control Center menu, then choose your Apple TV. (Watch the Video below to see how it's done.)
- After you click on the Screen Mirroring Icon, you’ll see a list of AirPlay-compatible devices that your Mac has discovered on your network. Click one of them to begin mirroring. (Apple TV's are labeled with the room number they're in.)
- While you’re connected and actively sharing your screen, the Screen Mirroring icon in the menu bar will turn blue.
Disconnecting from Screen Mirroring:
- To disconnect and stop sharing your screen, click the Screen Mirroring icon
(or click “Screen Mirroring” in Control Center
) and click Apple TV, displaying the room number, whose icon is highlighted in blue. (Watch the Video below to see how it's done.)
